NLP

Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP can be used as an extremely powerful and effective form of therapy or as a tool in life and business coaching.  It works at the very heart of who we are and how we communicate with ourselves, with the outside world, how we see the outside world and how we think the outside world sees us.

Whereas hypnotherapy is concerned with what we think, NLP can be used to find out how we think.  For every situation we encounter in our lives we run strategies to deal with them.  Most of our strategies  go unnoticed as they produce the outcomes we desire but others produce negative outcomes such as eating condition, phobias, anxiety, anger, addiction or an undesirable behaviour for example. By understanding our thought processes we can change the negative strategies for ones that produce a positive outcome.

Another difference between hypnotherapy and NLP is that NLP is content free, that is to say that the subject is not important, only the way you think about it.  For example, if someone has a phobia it doesn’t matter if it’s a fear of flying, a fear of cats, a fear of dogs or a fear of public speaking.  It’s the thought process that’s important and the ability to understand and change that process and create a new strategy.

In therapy, NLP is much more focused on goals and outcomes and many top athletes now use NLP to help improve their performance.  NLP is also widely used in business to improve work performance, negotiation skills and management techniques.
