What do I know?
As an ex-victim of a phobia (see the “About” page) I’m all too aware of just how debilitating a phobia can be. I’m also fully aware of how effective and simple the treatment is; in fact I was so overwhelmed by my experience that I changed my career and retrained as a hypnotherapist.
What is a Phobia anyway?
Whether it’s a fear of flying, spiders, heights, cats, dogs, birds or public speaking, all phobias work in the same way. I tend to think of phobias as a sort of psychological Anaphylactic Shock. With Anaphylactic Shock the immune system goes overboard when trying to protect the body from a perceived threat such as a bee sting, peanuts or some other food etc. It’s the same with the unconscious mind of a phobia victim; the mind perceives a threat but instead of triggering the normal “fight, freeze or flight” mechanism it goes into overdrive and the whole event becomes traumatic and terrifying for the sufferer.
“Since having two hypnotherapy sessions with Mark Sheppard I feel as though I have had a weight taken off my shoulders, the anxiety of presenting in front of people was always my biggest fear, I’ve suffered panic attacks in the past due to presenting and now since my two sessions (it only took two-AMAZING!) I am totally overwhelmed by the fact that I no longer have that fear, it’s actually quite bizarre that I now love the opportunity to present.I can’t thank Mark enough. I would highly recommend this treatment.”
OK – so now what?
The good news is that no one is born with a phobia! ALL phobias are a learnt response to a perceived threat. Now, if you’re smart enough to learn a phobia then you’re more than capable of unlearning it.
By using Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) we are able to quickly discover the strategies involved in running a phobia and we can then replace them with new strategies that produce a normal behavioural response to the old trigger. It really is that simple and most phobias can be dealt with in one session although there may be underlying issues that need to be addressed once the phobia has been removed.
“With great thanks to Mark Sheppard I had NLP for a fear of flying. I have finally found the confidence that I have been searching for over the years to get on an aeroplane with out worrying for months before hand! Mark made me realise there is nothing to fear, and I have now returned from my trip and I actually enjoyed the flight rather than hating every second of it. Thank you for everything!”Want to Know more?
